Michael KaufmanOn June 12, Victim Services Bruce Grey Perth will host a full day workshop with Michael Kaufman at the Bayshore Community Centre in Owen Sound. Kaufman is a Canadian author, educator, and theorist focused on engaging men and boys to promote gender equality, end violence against women, and end self-destructive ideals of manhood. He co-founded the White Ribbon Campaign in 1991, has published many acclaimed papers and books, and was recently appointed by the Prime Minister of Canada to his G7 Gender Equality Advisory Council.

According to Anne Elliott, Director of Victim Services Bruce Grey Perth, the #MeToo movement, public revelations of sexual misconduct, and concern about police 'unfounded' rates in sexual violence investigations have riveted the public over the past year.
"If we are going to end all forms of sexual, physical, and emotional violence including workplace harassment, we must deepen our understanding of the nature and causes of this violence", Elliot said.
"We must help parents and teachers learn new ways to raise boys to be men and engage boys and men as allies with girls and women to build society of respect and gender equality. And we must use these frameworks to develop action plans for our own communities. This one-day event will combine presentations by Michael Kaufman and interactive discussions to explore these themes", she added.
The June 13th event in Owen Sound will examine many of the themes of Kaufman's work to engage individuals, families, communities and professionals to end violence against women. Participants can expect interactive and wide-ranging discussions about the role of parents, teachers, boys, and men in understanding and preventing gendered violence.
Anyone can register through the 'Events' tab on the Victim Services website at www.vsbgp.com. Registration is $90.00 and includes snacks and lunch. For more information contact Victim Services at 519-376-7474.
