Jest Arts Celebrates First Twelve Months with Group Show “Twelve”

Jenny Parsons and Steven Morel, well-known for their roles on The Family Channel's "Wingin' It", opened an art event space in Durham twelve months ago. To mark the occasion, they will be hosting a group exhibition of visual artists called "Twelve".

"We are creative people, we needed a place to rehearse our comedy shows. Also, Steve plays music and I paint", said Parsons. "Durham was a perfect choice because it is an artistic town. Audiences are already coming to The Durham Art Gallery, we have live performances at The Garafraxa and many artists are drawn to the art supply store, The Colour Jar.

On May 20, there will be an opening reception for their first group exhibition, "Twelve". There are twelve artists in the show. Lillian Burgess paints with water colours; Jennifer Clark is a sculptural painter; Paul Drysdale is a painterly sculptor; Jenny Iserman create quilts as social commentary; Tony Luciani paints in the tradition of realism; Kristina Maus is a popular landscape painter; Ruth Mittleholtz works with paper and text; Iriz Paabo is a filmmaker and painter; Judith Pace K. is creating sculpture with paper; Jenny Parsons works in fluorescent acrylics; Susan Rankin employs textiles; and Debbie Schenk is working with metal sculpture.

"All the artists reside in Grey Bruce. Many of them are members of the Brocton Art Group, celebrating their 30 years of exhibiting at The Walkerton Library". Parsons continued, "It's a great way to celebrate our first twelve months in Durham and we are honoured to have such an accomplished group gathered here at Jest Arts."

"Twelve" runs from May 19 to June 5, 2016 at Jest Arts of Durham, 148-1 Garafraxa Street North. Opening Reception is Friday, May 20, 7-9 pm. Hours are Thursdays 2-5; Fridays 2-8; and, Saturdays 2-5. Check out www.jestarts.com for more information or call 226-432-2152.
