SW Jazz performers online imageThe SweetWater Music Festival is "swingin'" this spring with a jazz concert on Thursday, May 25 at Heartwood Hall in Owen Sound. SweetWater Jazz: An evening of Swingin' Strings... inspired by Grappelli & Venuti will feature SweetWater Artistic Director Mark Fewer in performance with guitarist Nathan Hiltz, violinist Drew Jurecka, and Joseph Phillips on bass.

The concert will include favourites such as Sweet Georgia Brown, Dark Eyes, Minor Swing, and Nuages. A swing-version of the famous Bach Double Concerto for two violins will also be performed.

"You'll enjoy a high-octane night of swingin' fun," says Fewer.

SweetWater has hosted several of the world's great jazz artists over the years including Gene Di Novi, Phil Dwyer, David Braid, Mark Kelso and the great Dave Young. Fewer adds SweetWater audiences have always enjoyed these jazz performances.

"From the moment Drew Jurecka finished his first Sweetwater solo show back in 2013, I was receiving texts, e-mails and calls about having him return. I'm delighted he will join us again with SweetWater favorite Joseph Phillips and myself. Joining in will be a new face for our audiences, Nathan Hiltz. It will be a very fun evening."

If you don't know the names Grappelli and Venuti, you should. Stephane Grappelli and Joe Venuti broke new ground as jazz violinists. Much of the concert's programme will be inspired by these two incredible performers.

Doors open at Heartwood Hall (939 2nd Ave. E., Owen Sound, upstairs) at 7:30 p.m. and the music begins at 8 p.m.

Tickets are $25 and available in advance and at the door. You can purchase tickets at Heartwood Home (939 2nd Ave E) or online via sweetwatermusicfestival.ca.

SweetWater Jazz will be a preview of an all-Canadian jazz concert planned for SweetWater 2017 on Saturday, September 16. It will also take place Heartwood Hall.
