The public got their first look at the 2017 Owen Sound art banners at the Farmers' Market Sunday afternoon. The Owen Sound Art Banner Project is an annual street art exhibition showcasing the works of local artists on street banners displayed along Owen Sound's harbour walkway and behind city hall. Since 2009, the Owen Sound Art Banner Project has helped us celebrate the talent thomasand success of our local artist community by showcasing their works on professionally produced banners throughout Owen Sound. Artists from Grey and Bruce Counties are invited to submit their work each year.

The Owen Sound Art Banner Committee, under the leadership of  local artist Lesley Bankes and a group of local volunteers, actively build broad support and participation in the project. In addition to adding artistic value to the downtown street scape, this exhibition increases tourist interest and civic pride in Downtown Owen Sound and the surrounding area.

The banners are funded by art patrons who sponsor a banner for $100 and receive it at the end of the public display period. The 2016 banners went home with their patrons today. This process keeps interest high, and creates an annual stream of fresh images.

All the 2017 banners and full sponsorship information can be found on the Project's website.
