On Tuesday afternoon, it was discovered that the Owen Sound Hub's Arts Editor, Kelly Babcock, was missing from his desk. The chain attached to the desk leg was still in place, but the ankle bracelet had been torn apart as if it had been made of licorice. In truth, it had been made of licorice, but we had really thought that that would hold him (he's neither that strong nor that bright).

It is unknown how long he'd been gone at that point since he is usually only checked on once a week to change the newspapers in the corner of his office, fill his coffee dish and leave spare baked goods behind for him. He may have been gone since Thursday the 22nd.  We had high hopes that he would just wander back to his desk and we could then slap on the new  ankle bracelet made out of beef jerky ( a much tougher and more durable material we're told).

As we were discussing the final edits of this report, the Arts Editor filed a story by email from our nation's capital.

It seems he assumed it was his duty to go to Ottawa for the July 1st celebrations and report on some of the aspects of life in the nation's capital.

Communications with the AWOL Babcock have led us to believe that he thought the ankle bracelet was a gag and he'd been free since the first day he started working here at the Hub.

He has stated that he looks forward to the Beef Jerky as the licorice one was apparently getting stale.
