artFifty pieces of art have been selected for GBHS's first Juried Art Show.

Grey Bruce Health Services issued a call to artists on Canada Day this year to submit work for the corporation's first juried art show, and the response was overwhelming! The deadline for submissions ended last week, and 85 artists from across Grey Bruce and beyond submitted their entries, along with short personal stories describing their 'Canadian moment."

"We would like to thank all of the artists for their enthusiastic participation, beautiful art and wonderful stories," said Lance Thurston, President and CEO of Grey Bruce Health Services. "Our intent is to bring local art into all six of our GBHS hospitals as a celebration of Canada's 150th anniversary, and you've made our first juried show an incredible success!"

A volunteer jury of professionals with a background in art met this week to pour over the submissions and select 50 works that will be loaned to GBHS and on display for one year. The jurors had a difficult task, and after much deliberation, came to an agreement on the artwork for the exhibit. The jury members were: Ron de Boer, Owner & Curator of Gallery de Boer, Owen Sound; Leigh Greaves, Board Chair of the Harmony Center; Heather McLeese, Curator of Temporary Exhibitions - Tom Thompson Gallery.

The artists whose work has been selected will be notified by October 13.

"We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to those who spent so much time and effort working on their art for this project," said Katie Thain, the GBHS employee who created the idea for the show, and volunteered her time to lead the project. "We are truly grateful to all our local artists, employees, patients and students for sharing their talent so generously."

GBHS will host a public art opening in November. The artwork will be installed in all six hospitals for one year, and will make a significant contribution to the healing environment for patients, visitors and staff.
