fiddlefernJoin the Fiddlefern Country Dancers as we learn some Balfolk dancing on Saturday, November 4th at St. George's Church Hall, 1049 4th Ave. E., Owen Sound.

Balfolk dancing is popular social dancing from Western Europe, a recent revival of traditional, mostly French, folk dances including bourrĂ©es, mazurkas and some snakey chain dances, to name a few! They are all fun and easy to learn - you don't need a partner or prior experience.

We're thrilled to have Emilyn Stam (enjoyed by many at Summerfolk 2017) who will lead us in the Balfolk dancing for half the evening, accompanied by Adam Iredale-Gray and Tangi Ropars (the latter from the Lemon Bucket Orchestra). We'll have contra dances for the other half of the night lead by Frank Francalanza. Doors open at 7:15 - Orientation (recommended for beginners) starts at 7:30. Dancing from 8-11 pm. $12 adult, $8 student/unwaged, $5 children, $25 family.

On Sunday, November 5 from 11-1 pm at the Harmony Centre in Owen Sound (9th St. entrance), the fun and learning continues with a Musicians' Workshop lead by the same musicians playing fiddle, guitar, piano, accordion and percussion. They'll share non-Celtic tunes that can be played for dancing and teach styling tips for various instruments. $5 admission! Bring your instrument and come learn some new tunes!
