Leave us in peaceLocal author Marty Elkins will launch his first book Leave Us In Peace at 7:00pm on Thursday November 9 at The Ginger Press in downtown Owen Sound. Set during World War II, this novel explores the lives of eight young people from around the globe as they are torn from their lives and thrown into a world of chaos.

Wally builds ships in Owen Sound while Toshiro trains at an airfield in Tokyo. Alice tries to keep her life from fraying in England, while Yulia struggles to keep her children alive in Stalingrad. In the US, Patrick, eyes war with dreams of heroism, unaware of the horrors being encountered by Konrad in Poland. Aleksandr faces the Nazi outside Moscow and Pietr continues to make music for everyone who will listen.

What happened during World War II? What was it like? With accurate historical details, beautiful prose and breathless pace, Leave Us In Peace tackles these questions. Marty Elkins, a public school teacher in Meaford, was inspired to write this book for his students; he wanted to help them understand what life was like from 1939 to 1945.

Everyone is welcome to attend the launch and learn more about Leave Us In Peace. Autographed copies ($24.95) can be reserved at (519) 376-4233.
