authorsLocal author Richard Thomas, who recently celebrated the publication of Trail of the Griffon, the eighth novel in his locally set DB Murphy mystery series, will be one of many local authors in attendance at the 32nd Annual Authors' Open House this Saturday December 9 from 11:00 to 2:00 at The Ginger Press in downtown Owen Sound.

This traditional gathering of authors provides an opportunity for readers to meet local writers who have recently published books and get autographed copies for everyone on their holiday lists. The 2017 lineup includes: George Auer (Soldiers of the Soil), Debbie Boyd (Pawprints on the Heart: Grey-Bruce Animal Stories), Terry Burns (Twelve Days: A Bestiary), Marty Elkins (Leave Us In Peace), Cathy Hird (Fractured: When Shadows Arise), Bonita Johnson de Matteis (Twas the Night Before Christmas, set in Owen Sound), Carol Merton (A Surprise for Santa), Lynne Porter (Oxenden: The Way It Was), Rob Rolfe (Hart Rouge), Barry More (A Thing of Beauty: The Story of Morland Place), Richard Thomas (Trail of the Griffon), Ken Thornburn (Owen Sound Colouring Book) and Eric Zweig (Toronto Maple Leafs: Complete Oral History).

Now in its 40th year, The Ginger Press Bookshop has shifted its focus away from mainstream books to carry local authors almost exclusively. In 1987, the small independent began publishing books as well, to encourage the development of local writers and capture stories which were being lost. Since then, they have published over 100 books of local interest, including many of those by authors in attendance at the Open House.

This year, The Ginger Press published its first ebook, Gas Head Willy by Richard J. Thomas, which had been unavailable as a standalone print book for many years. This coincided with the production of a stage play based on the Gas Head Willy story which is back by popular demand this Friday, December 8 at The Roxy. The ebook and a selection of recent print books are now available to order online at www.gingerpress.com, another recent innovation for The Ginger Press.

Everyone is welcome to attend the 32nd Annual Authors Open House at The Ginger Press in downtown Owen Sound this Saturday to meet the authors, get autographed copies and learn more about writing and publishing.
