spray cansThe Tom Thomson Art Gallery is thrilled to promote our fast approaching exhibition Saving Face: Art in Front of the Hockey Net from December 7, 2018 to March 30, 2019, honouring and celebrating the art of the goalie mask.

Teaming up with former NHL goaltender and hometown hockey hero Curtis Sanford, this exhibition features several painted goalie masks from Sanford’s career, along with those of other professional career players. Included are commercially designed masks, and models of masks through various stages of production, demonstrating the complexity of the airbrushing process. The show highlights the cutting-edge work of leading industry professionals including Vince Goodeve, Gerald McLaughlin of VOODOOAIR, and David Gunnarsson DAVEART.com to name a few.

Local artist Billy Goodkat will create a large-scale mural to celebrate the love of the game and to honour this iconic piece of sporting equipment.

Across from the mural, a Community Spirit Wall showcases the work of area youth who have taken a shot at designing their own goalie masks for everyone to enjoy!

The Gallery is proud to be located in Owen Sound, recently named one of North America's 'Must Visit Hockey Towns'.

Please mark your calendars down for December 7, 6-9pm for the opening of this incredible exhibition Saving Face: Art in Front of the Hockey Net with Exhibition Presenting Sponsor McArthur Tire. This exhibition truly illustrates a modern form of artistic storytelling, bridging the gap between sport and art, and enriching our love of the good old hockey game!!

Stay tuned for more exciting news on this exhibition as we get closer to installation next week!
