micThe Georgian Bay Story Slam is returning for a new season of live, true story telling! On the heels of a busy and exciting 2018 season, we are ramping up for a whole new year of story and song in the Georgian Bay Area. Since it’s inception in May of 2017, the Georgian Bay Story Slam has been presenting live, true story telling competitions up and down the coast of Georgian Bay. If you have not joined us yet - we welcome you to check us out and see what all the buzz is about.

The Story Slam is open for all to participate - prior to each Story Slam a call for submissions goes out to the community. Anyone is welcome to submit a synopsis of a story they would like to share. From those submissions about 8 story tellers are chosen for each competition. Then, the rules of engagement are simple. Stories must be: true to you, presented without notes or cue cards, and told in 10 minutes or less. Story tellers must be 18 years of age.storyslam1

Since we began just a short time ago, more than 60 story tellers have shared their true tales to packed houses and engaged audiences. The warm feeling of community and camaraderie at these events is palpable.

Our story Slam evenings offer a truly unusual and authentic entertainment experience. Stories range from the heartwarming to the hilarious and are interspersed with live music by special musical guests.

A panel of judges is selected for each event from all facets of our local arts community . In the past we have welcomed writers, visual artists, musicians, actors and more to decide our top story teller of the night and award our cash prize. Our events usually offer a cash prize of $200 for the top story teller. Our Grand Slam Season Finale event at the Meaford Hall this past November offered a cash prize of $500 thanks to the generous sponsorship of the Meaford Culture Foundation. The winners and fan favourites of our Story Slams qualify to compete in an annual Grand Slam event to celebrate the season’s best.

We are currently seeking submissions for our next Story Slam happening on March 28th at the Heartwood Hall in Owen Sound. On this night we are looking for stories based on the theme: ‘ A Humbling Experience’. Those seeking to participate are welcome to forward a short synopsis of their story idea to: [email protected]

Prefer to enjoy as a member of our audience? Tickets are available online at Ticketfly, at Heartwood Home ($10 = s/c) or at the door ($15).
