poet festivalThere is a call for entries for the William Wilfred Campbell Poetry Festival 2019.

William Wilfred Campbell (1860-1918) spent his youth living in Wiarton and was forever after influenced by the wild grandeur of the lake, land and shore landscapes of the Bruce Peninsula. History remembers whim alongside other Confederation poets like Archibald Lampman and Bliss Carman, but the title of “Poet Laureate of the Lakes” remains his alone.

2014 marked the first William Wilfred Campbell poetry festival, the vision of the late Paul Kastner. Now entering its 6th year, the festival seeks to both honour Campbell’s literary legacy and inspire further creativity in Grey and Bruce Counties.

The festival is open to all residents of Grey and Bruce. Open theme and style, but entries must be original and unpublished. Two entries per poet. $10 per entry but children and youth entries are free.

The child and youth entry deadline is May 27th, 2019, with four awards of $125 each.
The adult category deadline is June 10th, with two awards of $500 each.

The top 10 finalists will read their poems on June 23rd at The Meeting Place in Wiarton.
