TOM exhibitOn Friday, June 14 from 7:00pm to 8:30pm the Tom Thomson Art Gallery opens its doors for a celebration of its summer exhibitions: Richard Watts: Earth Etchings; a new Gallery Collection exhibition, Trains, Planes & Automobiles…and Boats!; and our latest Gallery Shop special project 100 Squares, a show featuring miniature artwork from regional artists. The reception begins at 7:00pm with opening remarks starting at 7:15pm. Complimentary refreshments and appetizers to follow. This is a free event and all are welcome to join in the fun.

Richard Watts’ exhibition Earth Etchings explores environmental and climate change issues in various media, emphasizing connections between urban and wilderness experiences, and more specifically, between people and nature. This exhibition is curated by Heather McLeese with essay contribution from John K. Grande, a leading national and international writer and curator of environmental art. Richard Watts is a land-based earth artist with his studio and work based in Southern Ontario. Watts is represented by Liss Gallery, Toronto, ON.

In this exhibition curated from the Gallery’s Collection, the artist focuses on these mundane modes of transportation, as a source of inspiration. Whether viewers see these images as nostalgia, or means of adventure, or hastening an environmental catastrophe, the interpretation is up to us.
