os-11From a former maternity hospital to a cemetery, Doors Open Owen Sound offers a perspective into the  heritage and culture of our community. On June 4 and 5, most sites are open from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. This is a unique opportunity to explore and enjoy 19 sites of cultural, historical, environmental and architectural

significance in and around the City – all free of charge.

Part of Doors Open Ontario (DOO), Owen Sound's event includes a mix of favourite sites and exciting new venues. Our community has participated in this successful annual event since 2003, welcoming thousands of visitors from throughout Grey and Bruce Counties, Ontario, and even internationally.

NEW THIS YEAR: Doors Open Ontario 2016 commemorates the 50th anniversary of universal health insurance in Ontario by emphasizing sites associated with medical heritage and the theme of 'Medical Science and Innovation'. Owen Sound has a number of new locations related to this theme such as: Owen Sound Hospital; Midwives Grey Bruce; and The Best You Owen Sound Surgical Centre and more. You'll also find many old favourites on the list, some with surprising links to this theme.

If you are looking for a volunteer opportunity, openings are still available - no heritage knowledge required . . just enthusiasm. What better way to learn more about these historic places than to spend a few hours volunteering at a site!

See below for a listing of all the sites and events plus a map to plan your day. Or visit us online  for more details.

Join us for Doors Open 2016 to explore history and innovation right in your own backyard!
