OS-logo-fullThe City's 'Maawanji'iding: Festival Canadiana Owen Sound', set for June 30 to July 9, will receive a grant of $32,000 from the Ontario150 Community Celebration Program through the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport. This funding will enhance the many activities and events taking place for residents and visitors to enjoy.

"This grant is almost the last piece in the puzzle needed to pay for the big celebration this summer," says the City's Event Facilitator Doug Cleverley. "Now we are looking to businesses and individuals around Owen Sound to help complete the puzzle. We are launching the 160/150 Challenge and asking 160 companies and individuals to donate $150 each towards the celebrations. Donors will be named in print materials and receive an official receipt eligible for a tax deduction. It is your party, Owen Sound!"

Festival Canadiana launches with Owen Sound Day on June 30, celebrating our 160th year since incorporation, and continues through Canada Day weekend at Kelso Beach Park with daily family friendly activities until July 2. Community events will be highlighted from July 3 to 6, followed by the Waterfront Festival with the Ontario 150 Tour visiting the harbour from July 7 to 9.

More detailed information regarding 'Maawanji'iding: Festival Canadiana' will soon be announced. Most events and activities are also marked in the Celebration 2017 Commemorative Calendar. Calendars are available at City Hall and other locations around Owen Sound.

Community event hosts and potential sponsors are reminded there are still many opportunities remaining to participate in Festival Canadiana events. Contact Doug Cleverley, the City's Event Facilitator by email to [email protected] or by phone at 519-376-4440 extension 1251.
