water advisory

 

The DO NOT USE water advisory issued yesterday remains in place. The DO NOT USE water advisory was put in to place due to extensive low pressure and one instance of low chlorine residual in the affected area, which has since been restored.

The affected area is all properties north of 8th Street West, above the hill on the escarpment (see attached map).

Necessary repairs to 10th Street between 1st and 2nd Avenue West were completed early yesterday evening.

THE CITY ADVISES RESIDENTS NOT TO USE OR DRINK THE WATER IN THE AFFECTED AREA. Toilets may be flushed affectedareajuly31for wastewater purposes. Residents in the affected area should make efforts to minimize water use to allow the pressure to be restored to a normal level.

The City is making the Bayshore Community Centre (1900 3rd Avenue East) available for showers between the hours of 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM during the Advisory period. Drinking water is also available at the Bayshore. Affected residents are encouraged to bring their own water containers for transportation.

The Family Y is also available for showers throughout the week from 5:45 AM-10:00 PM. If you plan to attend the Y, please bring with you:

Photo ID to sign in to the facility
Towel, shampoo, etc
Lock to secure belongings in a locker

Those with accessibility or mobility concerns requiring drinking water may contact Public Works at 519-376-4274 to have drinking water delivered. The United Way of Bruce Grey located at 380 9th Street East is available as a water fill station and "211" is available as a resource for residents to call 24 hours per day.

There is currently no timetable for the re-opening of 10th Street between 1st and 2nd Avenue West. Water Department crews remain on-site.

As per Ministry guidelines, positive sampling results must be obtained in order to lift the water advisory. City staff is awaiting the results of the samples but any such return could take up to 48 hours.
