open air burningAs the warmer weather approaches, residents should contact the Owen Sound Fire and Emergency Services regarding restrictions governing open air burning, before starting any fires or burning brush.

“With spring outdoor cleanup starting, we know some residents would like to burn brush and yard debris on their property,” explained Fire Chief Doug Barfoot. “Yard waste cannot be burned within the City of Owen Sound and we strongly recommend that residents use the compost site on 28th Avenue East to dispose of your yard waste.”

Residents should always keep in mind that:

- Only clean, dry firewood is to be used for burning;
- Fires are only to be set when the winds are light; and
- Fires are contained and kept small.
