senioroftheyearThe City of Owen Sound is pleased to announce Don McMillan as its 2019 Senior of the Year.

Mr. McMillan has been volunteering his time playing music at local senior’s homes, hospitals and special programs for the Merry Music Makers. Creating monthly music programs, learning to play a variety of instruments and sharing stories and jokes has provided a unique experience. Don was also a member of the Owen Sound Kiwanis Club serving as Chair of the interclub office for over sixteen years with perfect attendance. He has also spent time assisting youth programs and Church programs.

Over the past 32 years, Don is credited for brightening the lives of many through the sound of music and his great sense of humour.

“Mr. McMillan is a great example of a positive contributor in our community,” said Mayor Ian Boddy. “Volunteering his time to help better the lives of others for the past 32 years is certainly a great accomplishment and doesn’t go unnoticed.”

The City of Owen Sound’s Senior of the Year is awarded annually in June to coincide with Senior’s month in Ontario. The recipient is chosen through nominations submitted to the City’s Community Services Committee. Mr. McMillan was recognized by Mayor Ian Boddy and Owen Sound City Council prior to this evening’s Council session in Council Chambers at City Hall.
