9th ave 16th st E signThe City of Owen Sound has received a maximum of $933,427 from the provincial government for the rehabilitation of 16th Street from 9th Avenue East to 18th Avenue East.

“We are pleased to be receiving this funding from the Connecting Links Program. The 16th Street East Rehabilitation Project is important for our City to allow ease of access through the City to a busy employment area, as well as for access to the City’s downtown and waterfront,” said Owen Sound Mayor Ian Boddy. “The project will also include improvements for pedestrians. As a small urban community, we rely on funding from our upper tier governments for these types of projects and we really appreciate this funding from the Province of Ontario and MPP Bill Walker. We would also like to thank our regional representatives from the Ministry of Transportation for their ongoing support and being so great to work with over the last several years on numerous projects.”

The Town of South Bruce Peninsula has also received a maximum of $3 million towards the reconstruction of Berford Street from Mary Street to Division Street including traffic signals at Frank Street and George Street.

This year, the government will invest $30 million to support 25 Connecting Links projects, which will help 23 municipalities build, renew or replace designated municipal roads and bridges that run through their communities and connect to provincial highways. The funding covers up to 90 per cent of eligible project costs, to a maximum of $3 million.

Eligible municipalities are encouraged to apply for funding for the 2020-21 Connecting Links Program, which will be open to applications later this year.
