pipe-freeze-fullThe Water Department continues to receive many reports of service lines freezing in locations where they have never frozen before. So in some areas of the City with shallow water mains, the City will ask residents to begin running water continuously, 24 hours a day. A list of some of the key areas follows:

-3rd Ave E from 17th St E to the Water Treatment Plant

-9th Ave E from 10th St to 20th St

-9th St E from 1st Ave E to 8th Ave

-Other areas on the East Side (see City website)

If you live in one of these areas, please begin running water from one tap only, about the size of a pencil, ½ inch diameter. (About 1 cup (250 ml) of water in 10 seconds)

Water Distribution staff will take a reading from your water meter as soon as possible, so that there will be no charge for the extra water. Or, if you know how to read your water meter, please do so before running water and phone in your reading to 519-376-4440 ext 1243 or email [email protected].

NOTE: Regardless of temporary periods of warm weather, continue to run the water until you are notified to discontinue running water.
Please visit the City's website www.owensound.ca and click on "Frozen Water Services" for more information, including a map of the affected area. Further areas may be added to this map as time goes on.
