airbnbWith the municipal election coming up in October, and a new awareness of how fragile our community is, I am scared.

I sat through a long Owen Sound Council meeting tonight. A detailed motion was brought forward by John Tamming to ban Short Term Rentals in Residential neighbourhoods because of the havoc they are causing. Note that "STR's" refers to houses that are owned by people from other cities, who do not live in these houses but just siphon off money and remove the homes from the housing market.

coronationelizAs a resident of Saugeen Shores, I take exception to the wording in Mayor Charbonneau's message that was issued on the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. Firstly, let me say that I have greatly respected Her Majesty. I admire her dedication to service and her efforts to reconcile many competing traditions.

However, Mayor Charbonneau seems not to understand the world of 2022. He uses the word "affinity" twice. This presumes that deep down the people of Saugeen Shores felt an "affinity" to the crown. In 2022 I would question this.

bus stop 1516549 640For anyone who travels to or from the Saugeen Shores area to Toronto, one of our family members was notified while on the TOK bus line (Southampton to Toronto) that it will no longer have any stops past the Toronto International Airport in two weeks time. You will not be able to be travel into the city to Union Station on this bus line.
