abuse

Re: $28 million cut from Children's Aid Societies

This is something I know about, being a retired foster parent. Workers had huge case loads. Kids who come into care have more often than not already been through hell.

Their behaviours, because of early trauma and attachment issues, necessitate great patience and caring from their foster families and the foster families need support in order to deal with those behaviours.

The majority of Canadians have the luxury of pretending that kids aren't being abused and neglected beyond belief. Cutting back funding will have disastrous repercussions.

When foster kids are in care, ideally they have a chance to heal, to learn healthy ways to deal with their pain, fear and anger, to care about others and stop the cycle of abuse. If we fail them, we fail society.

But heck, let's throw some more money at hunting hats and cut the price for beer. Everyone's got their priorities right?
