Located North West of the city or Owen Sound, Camp Presqu’ile covers 14 acres of beautiful Georgian Bay shoreline. In partnership with the Owen Sound Rotary Club, the YMCA of Owen Sound has provided overnight summer camp to youth aged 6-16 for the past 90+ years. The YMCA and Rotary are thrilled to announce that Camp Presqu’ile will once again welcome young community members back to the camp after two years of closure due to COVID-19.

Since 2020, Camp Presqu’ile has been closed to campers while the YMCA and Rotary awaited good news from the Province. While the closure was disappointing to campers, parents and staff, the YMCA and Rotary feel it was necessary to protect the health and safety of our community. During the break, longstanding Camp Director, Andy Bernard, also retired from the YMCA after 20 years of service leaving a vacancy for camp operations. This season, new Camp Director, Megan “Scotia” Hutton, comes to the YMCA with many years of camp experience including managing YMCA Camp Pine Crest in Muskoka and virtual camp programs for Y Canada.

“We are optimistically planning our 2022 Summer overnight camp season, and looking forward to breathing new life into this special place, which holds so much beauty and history. ” said Megan Hutton, Camp Director.

Camp Presqu’ile is a unique summer camp that focuses on the camper’s development in “spirit, mind and body”. Through low camper to staff ratios, campers are able to be members of a community that focuses on fun, fair play and building relationships with fellow campers. Campers have an opportunity to participate in activities ranging from ecology, drama, and arts and crafts, to archery, swimming and canoing. Since Presqu’ile’s humble beginnings in 1929, it has provided cherished memories for many camp alumni and staff. The Rotary and YMCA look forward to relaunching Camp Presqu’ile in 2022 to provide high quality programming for a new generation of campers!

Registration for summer 2022 begins on February 22 through the YMCA’s online portal, Camp Brain. One week, two week, leadership and one-on-one assisted programs are available. To register, parents can visit ymcaowensound.on.ca/camps/camp-presquile for details.
