jarmojalavaThe Owen Sound Field Naturalists is pleased to present Jarmo Jalava as the guest speaker this Thursday November 19 at 7 p.m. at the Owen Sound and North Grey Union Public Library.

Jarmo Jalava is a lifelong naturalist, writer, songwriter and avid birder. His ecological career began as a teenager in the 1970s when he worked the Long Point Bird Observatory, followed by summer jobs reintroducing Peregrine Falcons to the wilds of Algonquin Park. Since then, Jarmo has conducted biological surveys of hundreds of natural areas in Ontario and central America. He has authored numerous reports and articles in the fields of ecology and the environment, including landmark studies of two of Ontario's UNESCO World Biosphere Reserves (Niagara Escarpment and eastern Georgian Bay coast). Jarmo has been the ecologist with the Chippewas of Nawash Species At Risk program since 2007. He is currently the Director of Ecosystem Recovery for the Carolinian Canada Coalition, a charitable organization that has been working to restore healthy ecosystems in southern Ontario since 1984. Jarmo's vision is to promote deep reverence for the natural world, through his ecological work, his writing and his music.
