vpgb-into-the-openViolence Prevention Grey Bruce invites community members to attend their first Community Round Table on Sexual Violence Prevention in 2016 – The Road Forward on Wednesday February 10th from 5:00-8:00pm in the Grey Bruce Health Unit in Owen Sound.

The group held three Community Round Tables in 2015 to explore how to 'talk about' sexual violence, what it looks like in our community, and what we can do to prevent it. Over 100 people have participated in the Round Tables to date and they are working to keep the momentum going in 2016.

Into the Open 2016 The Road Forward is all about action.

During the last community roundtable the group developed a Road Map for Action and six action ares: Making a Noise and Media Action, A Community Arts and Mentoring Project (April-May 2016), Focus on Schools and Youth, Protective Spaces for Men, A Community Report Card on Sexual Violence, and Community Education with the 'It Starts With Me' campaign. Violence Prevention Grey Bruce invite community members to join them on February 10th to develop specific plans to move forward with these ideas.

"The Community Round Tables have been so successful and are a great way to engage people in a difficult issue." said the project coordinator Colleen Purdon. "We want to keep this conversation going and move all of the great ideas from the previous Round Tables forward. The energy and ideas are amazing and people agree that we can't really address sexual violence until we can talk about it."

Into the Open 2016 – The Road Forward is open to everyone over the age of 16, and there is no cost, but people do need to register. A light supper will be provided. To register contact [email protected] or call 519 376-7145.
