The annual shave-offs are just getting started across the region with several school and community events kicking it off.

Since the program began in 1994, it has raised more than $51 million. This year Heroes for Hope will be hosted by Lotus Hair and Body Studio, Owen Sound on Friday May 6th from 5-7 p.m. The event is in conjunction with the 'Businesses & Organizations of Owen Sound Together' (BoOST) Fresh Friday event.

Over the years, the shave offs and going "down to the wood" so to speak, have evolved into hair dying, leg waxing, beard shaves and ponytail donations. If you would like to donate a ponytail it must be unprocessedhair, clean and must be 8-10 inches in length. The hair is sent to Pantene Beautiful lengths for processing into human hair wigs. The Bluewater Community Office is grateful to receive donations of these wigs back to the office to be distributed to cancer patients in the area at no cost.

We are looking for lots of people to join in this event – so if you want to get FRESH for summer please register here or call 519-376-6011 so that you can help support this amazing cause!

"The growth of the Canadian Cancer Society's Heroes for Hope campaign in this region is truly remarkable," says Fundraising Specialist Jennifer Wright. "Every year we marvel at the courage of our Local Heroes, the children who are our spokespeople, the dedication of our volunteers, the support of our communities and the generosity of the people of this area."

All the funds raised by the Canadian Cancer Society's Bluewater unit Heroes For Hope campaign are designated to pediatrics (children's) cancer and to help support families with children going through cancer and their transportation costs.
