daffodilBluewater Community Office - The Canadian Cancer Society urges Canadians to join them in the fight against cancer during Daffodil Month – a crucial fundraising time for the organization.

Throughout the month of April, the Society's volunteers will be in stores across Grey and Bruce counties taking donations and giving out Daffodil pins.

"The daffodil is a symbol of strength and courage. It signifying that we will not give up, and will keep fighting until cancer is eradicated," says Emily Bisson, Fundraising Specialist with the Canadian Cancer Society.

Two in five Canadians will develop cancer in their lifetime, and it is the leading cause of death in this country. "It is now more important than ever for your support," says Bisson. "We are seeing an increase in need for our services locally. Every donation made during our April Daffodil campaign will provide support for those fighting the disease, discover new ways of early detection and find new treatments."

Here is how you can support Canadians living with cancer this April:

· Buy and wear a daffodil pin throughout April.

· Participate in a Society fundraising event in your community.

· Sign up to shave your head or donate your ponytail at www.cancer.ca/heroesforhope

Money raised during Daffodil Month helps the Canadian Cancer Society fund excellent cancer research, provide information and deliver programs and services to prevent cancer and to support people living with cancer and their families and caregivers right here in Grey and Bruce counties; advocate on behalf of Canadians on important health and cancer issues.

"Cancer changes everything," says Bisson. "By donating to the Society, so can you."

The Canadian Cancer Society fights cancer by doing everything we can to prevent cancer, save lives and support people living with cancer. When you want to know more about cancer, visit cancer.ca or call our toll-free bilingual Cancer Information Service at 1-888-939-3333.
