What is "Love" in the language you speak?  The brand new Owen Sound Multicultural Arts & Crafts Collective celebrated Canadian Multiculturalism Day with a spontaneous craft project at the public library.  Nine people passed bookmarks around the table and wrote bookmark"Love" on them in the sixteen languages they knew. Now they are inviting you to write "Love" in a language you know, take a picture  and post it on their Facebook page, or OwenSoundHub.org's.

How many languages do we speak here in Owen Sound?

An invitation went out a few days ago from four women to join a new Facebook group - Owen Sound Multicultural Arts & Crafts Collective.

May Ip is one of the women who began the new collective. Ip, who was named Owen Sound's 2017 Cultural Catalyst, has brought Chinese culture to the fore locally with Chinese New Year celebrations, Chinese language, craft and health classes, and this year a travelling interactive exhibit on the history of the Chinese in Grey-Bruce.  She understands how celebrating your heritage can also be a path to finding your place in a community.

Future plans for the collective include gathering at a local church kitchen to cook and eat the dishes of the homelands of the people of Owen Sound.

Look for the group at this week's 150/160 festivities down at the Owen Sound waterfront.
