We are pleased to be partnering with the Owen Sound Water Watchers, and the Toronto-based Water Docs International Film Festival on the 2nd Annual Water Docs Where-You-Live in Owen Sound film series.

The series kicks off on Tuesday, September 12th with the Australian documentary, "Putuparri and the Rainmakers", a universal storyPeel film cover about the sacred relationship between people and place. It takes audiences on a rare and emotional journey to meet the  traditional rainmakers of Australia's Great Sandy Desert who have fought a twenty-year battle to win back their traditional homeland. The film spans ten transformative years in the life of Tom 'Putuparri' Lawford as he navigates the deep chasm between his Western upbringing and his growing determination to fight for his family's homeland. This is an emotional, visually breathtaking story of love, hope and the survival of Aboriginal law and culture against all odds.

On Tuesday, September 19th, "The Peel Project" brings together film, the arts and sciences as a means of telling a uniquely Canadian story of art, adventure and Canadian identity. The Peel Project highlights the landscape, culture and wildlife of the Peel River Watershed (PRW) in Yukon/Northwest territories. This watershed is one of the last undeveloped watersheds left in Canada, spanning nearly 68,000km of intact arctic wilderness. As of January 2014, 71% was opened for economic development related to mining and oil exploration - that decision has been continuously fought.

At the Library September 12th and 19th. Doors open at 6:15 pm. Films start at 6:30 pm. After each screening there will be a chance to talk about the film. Admission is free, but donations are appreciated.
