This is a reminder of the Summer of Pride  movie presentation on Thursday, August 8th. This is the last movie in the Summer of Pride Film Festival.

Our movie on Thursday, August 8th is The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.

This 1994 Australian comedy drama was a surprise worldwide hit, and — in addition to achieving cult status — was well received for its positive portrayal of LGBTQ persons.

The story is about 2 drag queens and a transgender woman who are contracted to take their drag show on a 4-week run at a casino in Alice Springs, Australia. They meet a variety of characters in the drive from their homes in Sydney to Alice Springs in their tour bus, christened “Priscilla”. Expect some surprises along the journey.

Priscilla won the 1995 Academy Award for Best Costume Design, and was screened in the “Uncertain Regard” section of the 1994 Cannes Film Festival. (The “Uncertain Regard” section is reserved for films which present their subjects “from another point of view” or in a somehow non-traditional way.)

The movie is rated 13+, and there is some violence.
