The Owen Sound Fire and Emergency Services have left the scene of a fire that occurred in the corridor of the 2nd floor of Victoria Towers, 825 9th Street West. The fire which began in an electrical panel was contained to the area around the panel.

The building owners now have care of the building. The hallway lighting, stairwell lighting and elevator are all operating. Power to the apartments will not be provided until the damaged panel has been replaced. The building owners have posted a fire watch on site until the fire alarm system has been repaired. The units are equipped with battery powered smoke alarms.

Crich Holdings who own the building have an electrician on site working on getting the electrical repairs completed. The Electrical Safety Authority is on site.

Residents can return to their units if they would like. Crich Holdings will cover the hotel rooms used while the apartments do not have power if residents would like to stay off site until power has been returned to the units.

Residents are reminded that they should use flashlights in the units instead of candles. Barbeques and other fuel fired appliances shall only be used in well ventilated locations.
