Safe 'N Sound is looking for Board Directors to take part in important decisions for the future. The building which the organization rents is coming up for sale. "This is an exciting time in the history of Safe N Sound," says Diane Eaton, Board Chair. "We've come to a critical crossroads. We have to explore new options."

The organization was formed in 2007 with a vision to establish emergency and transitional housing for those at risk of homelessness. That piece is not yet been completed.

Meanwhile Safe N Sound has established an effective program for those experiencing risks of homelessness and poverty. The downtown location, The Space, at 310 8th St. E, has become a community within a community where basic needs can be accessed. Participants can receive support, advocacy, referral and above all, a place to belong. "Safe 'N Sound is my home!" said one person recently. Safe 'N Sound serves 45 to 60 folk on a regular basis. The organization works in partnership with community services.

Safe 'N Sound also operates an after-hours Emergency Phone Line through which those in Grey BruceCounties, who find themselves in a housing crisis, can receive emergency shelter in local motels. (At the moment there's a need for more EPL volunteers.)

"Working with poverty has many challenges," says Ms Eaton. "But it is also rewarding. At the end of the day, it is gratifying to know that in some way you've helped improve someone's lot in life."

"But now we must address the housing need," she notes. "Moving forward requires a versatility of skill and experience, whether as Board Member, Volunteer, or supporter. We need people with expertise in social media, fundraising, and community collaboration, as well as knowledge related to property.

If this sounds of interest to you, why not consider Safe 'N Sound – and explore how you would best fit in to our vision.
