The Early Childhood Education students at Georgian College are already helping the youngest children in our community, a little more than a month before they complete their studies.
To create a positive conversation around the refugees coming to the Grey-Bruce region, the class held fundraisers at the College to provide some support for the newcomers. By mutual agreement, the proceedsMilet Mini1 have been used to purchase Arabic-English board books as gifts for the youngest children arriving in our area.
Ridgley Dier, one of the organizers of the initiative, said "We are very pleased with the support we received and how well it all worked out." His classmates were enthusiastic about the opportunity to provide something tangible for the youngest of our newcomers. As they prepare for jobs in the local area and beyond, they haveleft a legacy to our community – a positive example of generosity and inclusion.
In partnership with other community donors, the Owen Sound and North Grey Union Public Library will be providing appropriate dictionaries for school-age children and adults as they arrive in the area.
