opp-bike-fullHURON TOWNSHIP - On June 26, 2014 at 8:57 pm, members of the South Bruce OPP responded to a fail to remain crash involving a bicycle on Concession 12 in Huron Township. The involved vehicle wasn't at the scene when officers arrived.

The cyclist continues to recover in hospital after being air lifted for treatment of serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigation unit and OPP Forensic Identification unit are assisting the South Bruce OPP with this investigation.

Investigators are looking to speak with the driver of an International Eagle, straight truck or transport truck. The truck will have damage around the passenger side headlight and the driver may not be aware of the crash.

Computer stolen from vehicle

MEAFORD – On Thursday, July 10, 2014, at approximately 8:04 a.m., Grey OPP received a report of a stolen computer from a parked vehicle on Meadow Lane in the municipality of Meaford.

The Lenovo computer tablet, carrying case and accessories, as well as an emergency car kit, which included a portable car heater, were taken from the vehicle sometime between July 6th and 7th. The value of the stolen goods was estimated to be $700. The vehicle was unlocked.

Police also received reports of vehicles broken into on Somers St. and Finden St. in Georgian Bluffs. A man's wallet, cash, bank cards and other personal identification was taken. The vehicles were unlocked.

Driver impaired by drug

MEAFORD - On Thursday, July 10, 2014 at approximately 7:40 p.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police received a report of a possible impaired driver, driving erratically, northbound on Hwy. 6 & 10 through Chatsworth. The witness, an off-duty police officer, followed the vehicle until such time as an on-duty officer, operating an OPP cruiser, stopped the vehicle at the intersection of Concession 10 and Hwy. 26 in the municipality of Meaford.

The lone driver, who appeared to be confused, was arrested for impaired driving after failing a standard field sobriety test at the roadside. The driver was transported to the Meaford detachment where he was evaluated by a drug recognition expert officer who determined that the driver was impaired by drug.

Wayne Takahashi, 53, of Meaford, was charged with Care and Control of a Motor Vehicle While Impaired by Drug. He is scheduled to appear in court in Owen Sound on Thursday, August 14, 2014.
