dog-attack-fullThe Grey Bruce Health Unit is seeking assistance from the public to find the owner of a dog involved in a biting incident that occurred in Port Elgin.

On Tuesday, July 22, 2014, at approximately 2:00 p.m. a man was bitten by a St. Bernard while walking along North Shore Road in Port Elgin. The dog was in the company of a group of people who were also walking three other dogs (two huskies and a mixed breed). The group did not stop when the incident occurred and continued walking toward Southampton on Miramichi Bay Road.

Staff of the Grey Bruce Health Unit need to confirm that the dog is not infectious with rabies. By verifying the health of the dog, the victim can avoid receiving the post-exposure rabies treatment. If you have any information related to this incident, please contact the Grey Bruce Health Unit at 519-376-9420.

This incident also underscores the importance of keeping dogs leashed and under control at all times.
