OS-Policesept-fullThe Owen Sound Police Service will have a brand "new" Chief of Police this coming Wednesday. But the new appointment is temporary. Our celebrations for Police Week Ontario begin today and the selection of the new Chief is just one part of the theme, "Working Together For Safer Communities."

Between May 14 and May 20, 2017, we will showcase and discuss the importance of community partnerships and some achievements by members of our community. The Chief for a Day winner is an Owen Sound grade five student who wrote an essay about the actions that they would take if a parent were texting and driving with them in the vehicle. The new top cop will participate in media interviews, training, scientific scenes of crime work and will be honoured at an award ceremony.

The culmination of a school year that included the grade six KIDS Program will be held during police week at the historic ROXY Theatre in downtown Owen Sound. More than 250 students will gather with their peers to celebrate their KIDS graduation hosted by Chief Sornberger, the Senior staff and their police instructors.

Chief William Sornberger will be honouring members of the community for teamwork with the Chief Citation Awards Ceremony on Thursday May 18.

On Friday May 19, the police service will be spending the day with Syrian children and their families that have now called our region their home. This interactive day will assist them with a better understanding of the role of the police in Canada, how to contact the police, and how our justice system works. OSPS will host a BBQ for the families.

There are many more exciting events planned. Follow our official posts on twitter @OwenSoundPolice for updates, images and movies or search the hashtag #PoliceWeekON.
