trafficDuring the Canada Day long weekend, June 30 to July 3, 2017, Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) set their sights on all forms of aggressive driving in an effort to keep all road users safe. One of the highlights of the weekend was a Joint Traffic Initiative (JTI).

On June 30th, Grey County OPP, together with South Bruce OPP, Bruce Peninsula OPP, Saugeen Shores Police Service, Hanover Police Service, West Grey Police Service and Owen Sound Police Service, participated in a joint traffic initiative throughout Grey County. Between 3:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., approximately 1050 vehicles were checked resulting in 3 liquor violations, 1 - 3 day "warn" suspension, 3 violations under the Highway Traffic Act and 2 charges under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

In addition to the JTI, Grey County OPP efforts over the long weekend resulted in the following:

- 45 speeding charges

- 1 racing charge

- 1 seatbelt charge

- 2 distracted driving charges

- 3 moving violations

- 6 other HTA offences

- 16 liquor offences

- 5 insurance violations

- 3 impaired driving

- 5 "warn" range suspensions

- 1 ORVA violation

- 1 other provincial statutes

- 4 drug related offences
