os-p0lice-july-fullOn Monday, August 14th, 2017, between 10:30 a.m. & 11:30 a.m. a single family dwelling was broken into while the home's residents were occupied in the back yard.

Entry to the home, which is located in the vicinity of Owen Sound's Greenwood Cemetery, was made through a side door of the garage. The culprit(s) appear to have gone directly to the family bedrooms, where jewelry was located and subsequently stolen.

A vehicle believed to be involved is described as being similar in size and style to a Volkswagen or Mazda sedan, dark grey / black in colour. A Caucasian female in her mid to late 30's, with long straight dark hair, and average height and build was observed nearby and is believed to be related to the break-in.

Of note, a resident in the 400 block of 5th Street A West also reported a dark grey Mazda or similar vehicle in the neighbourhood at approximately 11:00 a.m. – 11:15 a.m. There was no front licence plate attached to the vehicle, and the rear licence plate appeared to be obstructed. A female was observed to step out of the car while the driver remained in the vehicle, walk a short distance down the road then return minutes later, at which point she knocked on a home's front and side doors. Apparently unable to gain entry, they departed.

Owen Sound Police wishes to remind residents that even though they are at home, the best crime prevention practice is to keep entry-points locked. Any persons witnessing suspicious activity in their neighbourhoods are encouraged to call police immediately.
