This spring, Grey County municipalities are hosting two free candidate information sessions for anyone considering running in the 2018 municipal election or school board election, or registering as a third-party advertiser. The first session will be held on April 17 at the Bayshore Community Centre (Shore Room) in Owen Sound from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A second session will be held June 21 at the Flesherton Kinplex from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Both sessions will be facilitated by retired long-time County Clerk, Sharon Vokes.

These facilitated information sessions will be beneficial to both new and experienced candidates. Attendees will gain a better understanding of how municipal elections work and what to expect if elected.

The Ontario Ministry of Municipal Affairs and is participating in both sessions and information from the Municipal Property Tax Assessment Corporation (MPAC) will be available. Grey County staff will share information about the responsibilities of members of County Council for those interested in running for mayor or deputy mayor. Also, staff from each Grey County member municipality will be available to answer any questions about running for office in your community, including the election method being used and the process for filing a nomination.

Registration is required and can be completed through Eventbrite or links on each municipal website.
