hospital donationLocal resident Elgin Warrilow generously donates $100,000 to the Owen Sound Regional Hospital Foundation on behalf of himself and his late wife, Shirley.

Elgin and Shirley established the E & S Warrilow Memorial Fund through the Benefaction Foundation with the assistance of CIBC Wood Gundy to support their community. They discussed ways to give back to Owen Sound – the city where they lived, worked, and raised their family, before Shirley passed away in 2017.

Now in his 90s Elgin is no longer physically able to give back in ways he has done in the past and so decided to give back through financial support. The $100,000 will be directed to the purchase of new anesthesia machines for the Owen Sound Regional Hospital. Grey Bruce Health Services (GBHS) is replacing 10 anesthesia machines, one for each operating room plus a specialized machine for use in the MRI.hospital donation2

Over 12,000 people had surgery at the Owen Sound Regional Hospital last year. A vital piece of equipment for all procedures is the anesthesia machine. "The generosity of such a gift is truly wonderful," says Dr. Eric Brown, Chief Anesthesiology, GBHS. "We had one of the new machines here last week to configure for our particular needs. Our department is eagerly anticipating the arrival of the new machines and the clinical advances they permit."

"Thank-you Elgin and Shirley for your extraordinary donation to support healthcare in Grey and Bruce. You are making a difference in patient care in Owen Sound" says Derek Smith, Chair, Owen Sound Regional Hospital Foundation.

Elgin is a retired shop and math teacher at OSCVI where he never took a sick day. Shirley was an investment advisor assistant with CIBC Wood Gundy. Elgin currently lives at Central Place where a former student of his does the maintenance, and where Elgin is always happy to offer guidance. Lifelong volunteer and philanthropist this is the first of four generous donations Elgin is making in the community. He hopes his generosity will inspire others to give back to their community.
