All are welcome to join with their Anishnaabe neighbours in a water walk, and to observe the Public Hearings on Bruce Power's licence renewal. Here is their invitation - more information in the links below.

We all need to listen to what the Lake is telling us. As Anishnaabek we need a voice.

Biidaabinokwe and Waasekom are bringing this message forward to the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) at the Public Hearing on Bruce Power's license renewal application and proposal for a major nuclear project in our Territory.

Bruce Power's proposed Major Component Replacement (MCR) project extends the life of Units 3-8 so that the facility will be able to operate in our Territory for another 30 to 35 years into the future. Bruce Power has included this proposal in their license renewal application for Crown consideration and approval so that they are able to begin construction in 2020. This will mean tremendous impacts to the water in Lake Huron, to the land, and will produce an immense amount of nuclear waste at the site. Our rights as Indigenous peoples cannot be compromised.

When major decisions are being made that will affect the health and well-being of this powerful life-source, we need to understand what the impacts will be.

How might the Saugeen Ojibway Nation communities (Nawash and Saugeen) be impacted? How might the renewal of Bruce Powers operating licence and this project impact Anishinaabe peoples response-ability as Stewards to safeguard the lands and waters? We want to hear from you.

Join us on this grassroots journey as we prepare to deliver the message to advocate for Lake Huron, and the homelands we belong to, at the upcoming CNSC Hearings at the end of May.
