Not for the first time, a train car at the Community Waterfront Heritage Centre has been the victim of vandals.lifeboat
Police were called this morning to look at the damage to coach #4884 after volunteers arrived to continue the restoration work on the car's interior.
The windows of the 1953 Pullman coach have received extensive work to seal them against leaks, and now someone has put a rock through an outside pane. The volunteers found dozens of beer cans in the Chi Cheemaun lifeboat #2 that was installed just this summer a few metres away from the rails. Repairs to the window will be time-consuming and expensive.
Increased security for the outdoor artifacts will be back on the agenda for the board responsible for the former Marine and Rail Museum, says Chair Kathy Strutt, but it did not slow the volunteers who continue to work on the restoration of the rail car. The bright space will be the setting for a members event next week at which local photographer Rob Cotton will be sharing his knowledge and photographs of Owen Sound's harbour history. The coach will be used in future for museum displays, public events, and as a rental space for private events.
