Grey Bruce Health Services hosted its annual reception today to welcome the ten new physicians who have moved to the area this past year.

The new group of physicians includes specialists in Emergency Medicine, Adult Psychiatry, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Urology, Otolaryngology, Hospital Medicine and Family Practice. These physicians are working throughout the Grey and Bruce regions within the six GBHS hospitals and in the community.

"We are very pleased to welcome these new doctors to the area to offer specialty care to patients within our hospitals, and to have more family doctors for residents across Grey Bruce" said Lance Thurston, GBHS President and CEO.

Dr. Emile Roux, an Ear, Nose and Throat Surgeon, uprooted his family from the East Coast to Owen Sound this summer.

"Owen Sound and GBHS provides me with a great opportunity to work with awesome colleagues and a chance to further my career," said Dr. Roux. "The staff is very competent and efficient. With Owen Sound being voted a top ten retirement area in Canada, what's not to like? We have been here for two months and are really enjoying the work and the community."

Along with the new physicians, GBHS also welcomed two new and two returning Family Medicine residents from McMaster University and six Emergency Medicine residents from the University of Toronto and the University of Ottawa. The Family Medicine residents complete two years of training with the Owen Sound Family Health Team, with specialty rotations across GBHS. The six Emergency Medicine residents are in their fourth year of training, and will work with the Owen Sound Emergency Department, expanding their knowledge of rural emergency medicine. The GBHS medical education program supports an average of 20 medical students and residents per month from Universities across Ontario.

Efforts continue to recruit specialists in the following areas: Hospital Medicine, Internal Medicine, Anesthesiology and Surgical Assistants. Family Physician recruitment efforts also continue throughout our communities.
