kids-fullOwen Sound - The YMCA of Owen Sound Grey Bruce is set to host its 2nd annual YMCA Cycle for Strong Kids on Saturday, November 8 at the YMCA Health, Fitness and Aquatic Facility in the Julie McArthur Regional Recreation Centre.
Last year's event raised over $12,000 in support of the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign, which provides financial assistance to local children and families who are unable to afford the full cost of membership.
New this year, the event welcomes individual riders, as well as teams. Participants will participate in a 30 minute, instructor-led cycle class between 8:00 and 11:00am. The YMCA has also put forward a challenge for a team to ride for the whole event this year!
To participate, individuals are asked to fundraise a minimum of $125.00, while teams are asked to fundraise a minimum of $500.00 together as a team. The money raised directly benefits our community.
All of the funds raised will go to the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign which supports the YMCA's financial assistance program. The program helps to ensure that low income is never a barrier to participation at the YMCA by providing financial subsidy to those in need. In 2013 we provided financial assistance to over 845 people.
How to Get Involved
Participate as an individual or recruit a team of five people, and pick up a registration form at the Y, or at ymcaowensound.on.ca
No experience is necessary to participate. If you are new to using the stationary bikes, YMCA staff and volunteers will be on hand to help participants get set-up, and adjustable resistance dials on the bikes allow participants to customize their ride to their experience level.
There are sponsorship and volunteer opportunities available. Visit ymcaowensound.on.ca for details.
