brainIn response to the significant rate of concussion injuries in the region, the Grey Bruce Health Unit is hosting a public forum to look at issue related to concussion injuries. In 2016, there were 503 emergency room (ER) visits due to concussions for every 100,000 Grey Bruce residents. This is the second-highest rate in the province, and twice as high as the provincial rate. Among youth under 20 years of age, the local rate of concussion-related ER visits is the highest in the province.

On Thursday, October 25, 2018 the Grey Bruce Health Unit is hosting a free Concussion Forum from 6:30 to 8:30 pm (doors open at 6:00 pm) 101 17th Street East, Owen Sound. Topics include injury prevention, identifying symptoms, medical assessment, when to return to learn (school) and sport and the new 2018 school board policies.

Speakers include Paul Osadzuk from Bayshore Physiotherapy and Mike Bethune, Superintendent of Education, Bruce Grey Catholic District School Board.

This forum provides an opportunity for Grey Bruce parents, athletes, educators and coaches to come together to network and become more knowledgeable about concussions.

Register by October 19; contact Amy Gaviller at 1-800-263-3456 ext. 1316 or [email protected].
