The Honourable Bill Blair, Canada's Minister of Border Security and Organized Crime Reduction, will be holding a town hall with MP Larry Miller tomorrow Sunday, February 3 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Durham Community Centre.

This public meeting is part of a nation-wide consultation on a possible ban on handguns and assault-style weapons, and news of it appeared in the Sun Times and publications from the Fort Saskatchewan Record to the Blueridge South Carolina Sportsmen's Club newsletter. However, the Owen Sound Hub was not sent any notification of the meeting.

Not that we are not on Mr. Miller's media list. For example, we received previous news releases from his office, titled “Minister Gives Rural Firearms Owners the “Runaround” and “Larry Miller Opposes UN Global Compact for Migration”.

Although the format has not been announced, Mr. Miller has said “This is an important topic for many residents in the riding and it is important that this government has an opportunity to hear their concerns”.

We assume that there will be opportunity for public input on all sides of the issues.

We can assure our readers that some potential candidates running for MP for Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound this fall, both Conservative and Liberal, will be there to hear what their neighbours have to say.

The Minister's consultation has taken him to both urban and rural areas, including Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal and Moncton, and, at the request of local MPs, Whitehorse, Corner Brook, Red Deer, Edmonton and Kenora.
