In December of 2018, members of the OSCVI Alumni Association voted to create an award to recognize Civic Leadership by a student at each of Owen Sound's secondary schools.

Ryan Brown of Owen Sound and District Secondary School (OSDSS) was the first-ever recipient of the OSCVI Memorial Award for Civic Leadership, in the form of a financial gift and certificate of recognition, presented on behalf of all OSCVI alumni at the school's final assembly of the year.

Brown was chosen by his school for his outstanding civic leadership and passionate and abiding concern for the common good. The Award celebrates the impact of one person's leadership within and beyond the walls of the school.

Next week the representatives of the OSCVI alumni will award the OSCVI Memorial Award for Civic Leadership to a deserving student at St. Mary's High School graduation.

After their highly successful 125th reunion in 1981, the OSCVI Alumni Association was left with a surplus. The award money comes from earned interest of the OSCVI Student Support Endowment Fund, which operates under the Community Foundation Grey Bruce.
