If someone in Wiarton is in need, the Salvation Army has always been the place to go. But this week, someone came and took without asking, and did a lot of damage in the process.

It's time for the community to come help the Salvation Army.

The Salvation Army building in Wiarton was burglarized and vandalized. An estimated $10,000 in food, merchandise and a safe filled with gift cards to meet local needs was stolen. Laptops and a large screen television were taken. Damage was done to most of the doors of the community space used for the food banks, community meals, and programs for seniors, children and youth, women and men.

Friends and neighbours are hoping some local contractors will bring their tools and skills for a few hours to help install new secure doors when they are ordered. Filing cabinets were pried open, so if someone has good lockable cabinets to donate, they would be welcome.

The Salvation Army serves a large population in Wiarton and North and South Bruce Peninsula and Neyaashiinigmiing .They host Trades Start for at-risk youth, reading programs for children, youth and seniors groups, day camps, the Nawash and Peninsula food banks, and many other programs for the community.

We would all like to see them back in good, secure shape for the busy season that is almost upon us. Any donations to help replenish would be most gratefully accepted.

All the ways you can donate money are on their website.

Food donations will be accepted at Century 21 In-Studio WIARTON location.
