boa-fullOwen Sound police were called to a motel on the city's east side with regards to a five-foot snake that had been left behind by a customer when he vacated the room. When officers arrived they located the 1.5 m (5 foot) snake loose in the room. The snake was later determined to be a super salmon boa constrictor. The officers were able to retrieve the snake and took it to a local pet store that has the knowledge and ability to properly care for the reptile.

The investigation revealed that the snake's 25-year old owner had been renting a room for the past month before heading for Nova Scotia, leaving the boa behind. Police were able to get in contact with the snake's owner in Nova Scotia. He had left instructions for his friend, from whom he had originally obtained the snake, to pick it up and take it to a pet store. The friend did not do so, leaving the reptile alone in the room for five to six days until it was discovered on January 10th.

This particular species, when fully grown, can average 1.3 m to 2.5 m in length and has been known to exceed a 40-year life span in captivity, according to Wikipedia.
