summerjobThe Federal Government has announced that the deadline for organizations to apply for funding through the Canada Summer Jobs Program (CSJ) (originally February 2nd, 2018) has been extended to Friday, February 9th, 2018 at 11:59p.m.

The CSJ provides funding to not-for-profit organizations, public-sector employers and small businesses with 50 or fewer full-time employees to create summer job opportunities for young people aged 15 to 30 years who are full-time students intending to return to their studies in the next school year.

The program has been the subject of public controversy this year due to the requirement that applicants sign an "attestation" that they agree with certain values before they can submit their applications. Larry Miller, Member of Parliament for BruceGrey-Owen Sound, has met with numerous faith-based and other organizations regarding this issue.

"I've met with a number of different groups throughout Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound about this new requirement. It has never been in place in the past and is making it impossible for some groups to apply for funding that they should be eligible for," said Miller. "This extension is proof that the number of applicants for funding has gone way down due to this Government's political agenda. I am still urging ALL organizations to apply for funding despite the attestation. It is a shame that this Government continues to play politics with youth summer employment."
